I’m excited to share this amazing, simple recipe with you that will make your life a whole lot easier! In the past I’ve always been intimidated by making tomato sauce from scratch. It never seemed worth it because of all the chopping and simmering time. But I was surprised at how easy it really is to make a delicious homemade sauce in just 10 minutes! Plus, this sauce can be frozen so you’ll have enough for weeks of dinners without any extra work on your end!
prep: 10 mins cook: 1 hr 5 mins total: 1 hr 15 mins Servings: 10 Yield: 10 servings
1 ½ teaspoons dried basil
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
½ cup minced onion
2 teaspoons olive oil
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 (6.5 ounce) cans canned tomato sauce
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 cloves garlic, crushed
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
½ cup water
½ teaspoon fennel seeds
1 tablespoon salt
Heat olive oil in a large, heavy pot over medium heat. Cook and stir onion and garlic in hot oil until tender, 5 to 7 minutes.
Stir crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water with the onion mixture until smooth; add sugar, parsley, basil, salt, Italian seasoning, fennel, and pepper. Stir the mixture, bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened and the seasonings have permeated the sauce, 1 hour to 90 minutes.
