Pesto is a common and popular Italian sauce. It usually consists of basil, pine nuts, garlic, olive oil and Parmesan cheese. While the traditional pesto recipe may be delicious it can be time consuming to make from scratch because you have to hand chop all of your ingredients instead of using a food processor or blender. Luckily for us there are many pesto recipes out there that save us time but still taste just as great! This Basic Basil Pesto recipe is simple and quick so even if you don’t consider yourself very good in the kitchen this will become one of your favorite go-to recipes!

½ cup extra-virgin olive oil

2 cups fresh basil leaves, stems removed

2 tablespoons pine nuts

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tablespoon minced garlic


Place pine nuts in a single layer in a dry skillet over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant and golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer immediately to a plate to stop the cooking process; allow to cool, about 5 minutes.

Combine pine nuts, basil, and garlic in the bowl of a food processor; pulse until blended. Pour olive oil in slowly, with the processor running on low speed, until mixture is smooth. Add Parmesan cheese and process just until combined.
