It’s that time of year again! Time for mulled wine, hot cocoa, and wassail punch. Wassail Punch II is a traditional drink to serve during the Christmas season. In this blog post you will find step by step instructions with pictures on how to make it yourself at home.
Mulling spices are usually nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, allspice berries or ground spice mix (such as pumpkin pie spice), cardamom pods/seeds or other flavors such as star anise or peppercorns. For this recipe I am using fresh nutmeg and cinnamon sticks because they are more potent than dried versions which can be used in your recipes if you prefer them over the fresher ones.

3 cinnamon sticks

8 whole cloves

1 ½ cups white sugar

1 ½ cups orange juice

1 cup lemon juice

3 cups water

1 gallon apple juice


In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cloves, water, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil, and continue to boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and allow to cool for 1 hour.

Stir in the orange juice, lemon juice, and apple juice. Return to the heat, and boil for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove cloves and cinnamon sticks before serving.
