This is a delicious Dutch treat that will leave you wanting more. Wentelteefjes are small, round cookies with a distinctive checkered pattern on the top and bottom of each cookie. They are said to be named after their resemblance to the popular Dutch waffles called “gaufres de Malines”. I love making these biscuits because they are so easy! You can whip up this recipe in about an hour without any hassle. Plus, they’re super tasty!

1 tablespoon white sugar

1 egg

1 ½ cups milk

8 slices day-old bread

2 tablespoons brown sugar

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon


In a large bowl, combine milk, egg, cinnamon and sugar. Soak bread in the egg mixture.

Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Cook until bread slices are golden brown on both sides. Sprinkle with brown sugar and serve hot.
