World’s Best Pasta Sauce!

Side Dish

When my daughter was little, she would always ask for spaghetti. I made it for her every time and never tired of the request. One day she asked me to make her “the best sauce ever” but I didn’t know how to do that. So I searched online and found this recipe called World’s Best Pasta Sauce! This is now my go-to pasta sauce recipe because it tastes like the Italian restaurant we used to frequent before our daughter was born (when my husband could still eat gluten). It’s also easy enough for a child to help with so if your kids want you in the kitchen with them, there are a few steps they can take too!

prep: 15 mins cook: 1 hr 30 mins total: 1 hr 45 mins Servings: 16 Yield: 16 servings

1 ½ teaspoons dried basil

2 cloves garlic, crushed

¾ pound lean ground beef

1 pound sweet Italian sausage, sliced

½ cup water

1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste

½ cup minced onion

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

2 tablespoons white sugar

2 (6.5 ounce) cans tomato sauce

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon fennel seed

In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook the sausage, beef, onion, and garlic until well browned; drain fat. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Mix in sugar and season with basil, fennel seed, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
