Ingredients

  • Chocolate Cake:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Marshmallow Buttercream:
  • cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoon confectioner's sugar
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoon marshmallow cream Marshmallow Fluff
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Whisk together dry ingredients (flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt).
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla, then milk.
Gently fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
Scoop batter onto baking sheets, spacing them apart.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, until set. Cool completely on wire racks.
Beat buttercream ingredients until smooth and fluffy.
Spread or pipe buttercream onto half the cooled cakes. Top with remaining cakes to create sandwiches.

Notes

  • Don't Overmix: Mix batter until just combined to avoid dense cakes.
  • Cool Completely: Ensure cakes are fully cooled before filling to prevent a messy situation.
  • Piping Bag Perfection: Use a piping bag for neat and even buttercream filling.
